Rules

These are the rules for Mystic Henley.

  1. You must pick one entry for each competition in Henley Royal Regatta.
  2. The Mystic Henley champion will be the entry which correctly selects the most HRR winners in the 19 events. In the event of a tie (two or more entries with the same number of winners on Sunday 4th July 2010), the Mystic champion will be drawn out of a hat. The champion will be announced on Regatta Radio and on the Rowing Service after the close of Henley Royal Regatta.
  3. Individuals may enter as many times as they like, and at any point between 18th June and 1st July, but must register separate usernames for each entry. However, your email address may have more than one username associated with it.
  4. All selections must be made by 10pm on Thursday 1st July 2010, at which point entries for the Mystic Henley competition will be frozen.
  5. After the qualification races, the names of those crews which do no qualify (or drop out for any other reason) will be removed from the choices and you will have to choose replacements. The same will happen with any crews which lose on Wednesday or Thursday of the Royal Regatta.
  6. For the purposes of identification some personal information will have to be collected, but this will not be used for anything other than the Mystic Henley competition. A small amount of demographic information will also be collected for feedback to Regatta Radio and the Rowing Service, but will be anonymised.

General help

  • When wil the next changes be made? -
The database will next be updated after the qualifying results are out, to reflect which crews have successfully got through to the main regatta. Then it will be updated again after the draw. After that, the results will be added in each night after racing.

  • Can I user the site without registering? -
You cannot take part in the competition without registering, but you can visit the site, look at the leaderboard and the comments, and see the charts with current and previous results.

  • Can I use a registration from a previous year?> -
Yes, if you registered to play Mystic Henley (2007/8/9) or Mystic Rowing (the worlds 2009 version) then you can re-use the same registration if you remember your password. If not, email RQ with what you want your new password to be, and it will be changed for you.

  • What are the charts? -
The new charts display the picks percentage for each crew, both in the 2010 regatta, and for 2007/8/9. To see how a crew's popularity has changed through the competition, click on its name in the charts list.

  • How does the leaderboard work? -
The leaderboard lists those with the most crews left in the competition, subdivided by points. A crew gains a point for successfully qualifying (or being pre-qualified), for rowing over, for progressing via a bye, or for winning a race. Mystic users with the most crews and points left in are the most successul rowing fortune-tellers.

  • How do I see the comments others have left? -
On the right of every page is the Twitter-style comments section - you can see the five most recent comments at any time. To see more, click on "More comments" at the foot of this section. You can also add a comment of your own, here.

  • How do the comments work? -
You have to be logged in to post a comment. To reply to another user's post, put @username (eg @rq) at the front of your comment. To refer to a specific event, use hash, eg #thames, and this will be converted into a link which takes readers straight to the page for that event. Posts from the admin team will appear with a red border around them.

  • How do I find out what someone else has picked or is saying? -
Go to the leaderboard, and find their name in the list. Then click on their name, and you will see their full picks list, when they made their most recent changes, and a comment wall at the foot of the page. You can also reach these individual pages by clicking on a name in the comments forum list.

  • Is there a full entry list? -
Yes, the Events page has a full current list of those entered for Henley Royal Regatta 2010. As the competition starts this will convert into a draw-format display.

  • What's the prize? -
The prize for the winner is up to Regatta Radio, but is usually a luxury food hamper. The prize is not restricted to those in the UK and delivery can be arranged anywhere. Last year two people tied for the prize. A random draw was done live on air by the proprietor of Regatta Radio, and the runner-up also received a bottle of champagne.
