Mystic Worlds

Rules

These are the rules for Mystic Worlds 2015.

  1. You must pick one winning entry for each of the 27 events at the 2015 world rowing championships. Players who don't pick a crew for every single category will not be eligible for the prize..
  2. The Mystic Worlds champion will be the entry which correctly selects the most 2015 gold-medal crews out of the 27 events. If there is a tie (two or more entries with the same number of winners at the end of Sunday 6th September 2015), then the Mystic champion will be drawn out of a hat under the supervision of an eminent and independent adjudicator from the press corps. The champion will be announced on the Rowing Voice twitter feed, and on this website after the end of the regatta.
  3. Individuals may enter as many times as they like, and at any point before entries are frozen, but must register separate usernames for each entry. However, your email address is allowed to have more than one username associated with it.
  4. The deadline for choosing will be 16:40 local time (GMT+2) on Thursday 3 September 2015, which is the start time for the first of the para-rowing finals. At this point entries for the Mystic Worlds competition will be frozen. This is slightly later than usual so you will know who the para-rowing and non-Olympic finalists are, but the Olympic event finals will not yet have been run.
  5. After racing begins, the names of those crews which do not qualify for the next race (or drop out for any other reason) will be removed from the choices and you will have to choose replacements. Anyone who has gaps in their 27 choices will not be eligible for the prize, however many winners they pick.
  6. For the purposes of identification some personal information will have to be collected, but this will not be used for anything other than the Mystic Worlds competition. A small amount of demographic information will also be collected for feedback, but will be anonymised.

General help

  • When wil the next changes be made? -
The database is updated nightly or more often once racing begins. During the finals days it is sometimes updated every race or two.

  • Can I user the site without registering? -
You cannot take part in the competition without registering, but you can visit the site, look at the leaderboard and the comments, and see the charts with current and previous results.

  • Can I use a registration from a previous year?> -
Yes, if you registered to play Mystic Henley (2007/8/9/10/11/12/13/14), Mystic Worlds (2009/10/11/13/14) or Mystic Games (2012 Olympics) then you can re-use the same registration if you remember your password. If not, email RQ with what you want your new password to be, and it will be changed for you.

  • What are the charts? -
The new charts display the picks percentage for each crew, both in the 2015 regatta, and for the previous Mystic competitions of all types, together with a timeline of when those picks were made. To see how a crew's popularity has changed through the current competition, click on its name in the charts list.

  • How does the leaderboard work? -
The leaderboard lists those playing the game, ordered by who has the most crews left in the competition. Mystic players with the most crews left in are the most successul rowing fortune-tellers. Anyone with a warning triangle by their name hasn't picked a full set of choices so won't be eligible for the prize.

  • How do I see the comments others have left? -
On the right of every page is the Twitter-style comments section - you can see the five most recent comments at any time. To see more, click on "More comments" at the foot of this section. If you have a registration and are logged in, even if you are not playing this year, you can also add a comment of your own, at the same place.

  • How do the comments work? -
You have to be logged in to post a comment. To reply to another user's post, put @username (eg @rq) at the front of your comment. To refer to a specific event, use hash, eg #w2x, and this will be converted into a link which takes readers straight to the page for that event. Posts from the admin team will appear with a red border around them.

  • How do I find out what someone else has picked or is saying? -
Go to the leaderboard, and find their name in the list. Then click on their name, and you will see their full picks list, when they made their most recent changes, and a comment wall at the foot of the page. You can also reach these individual pages by clicking on a name in the comments forum list.

  • Is there a full entry list? -
Yes, the Events page has a full current list of those entered for the 2015 World Rowing Championships.

  • What's the prize? -
The plan is for the prize to be a Worlds 2015 t-shirt signed by as many gold medallists as RQ can persuade to write on it during the finals days. Something else might be added later. TBC
